Name: Jun I.
Age: 5. But she looks 15.
Birthday & Astrology Sign: June 1st (Gemini)
Arcana: Moon

World Snapshot:
Jun's world is no different from the modern world we know and love, save for some advanced technology here and there. By that I mean just Jun.

Backstory:
Dr. I. was once a little girl who was captivated by her mother's music box. She was so captivated by it that she wanted to learn how it worked, so she broke open her mother's music box to see what was inside. Suffice it to say, her mother wasn't pleased; but Dr. I. never grew out of her desire to learn how things ticked--and how to make them tick.

In time, this developed into an interest in robotics. Robotics will change the world! she thought, more so than the little music boxes she created as a child. She still kept one or two around, but she was looking towards bigger and better things, things that would enchant the human heart more than a music box could.

Dr. I. was rather good with robotics, if the narration may say. In fact she became quite famous, one of the most lauded inventors in her field. Still, despite all she had accomplished, she remained unsatisfied. She felt that she hadn't pushed the envelope enough. She felt there was still some grand, enchanting creation within her just itching to get out and be shown to the world! And like that, she realized it: she was going to create a robot who could pass effortlessly as a human!

And thus she created Jun.

Her interior aside, Jun was perfectly human in every way. There was only one problem: her voice. It was unmistakably robotic, and no matter how much Dr. I. worked, she could not get Jun to sound human. Completely stumped, Dr. I. gave up on Jun as a failed experiment, and never announced her creation to the world. Yet, though Dr. I. had given up on Jun as an experiment, she had not given up on Jun as a person. Jun remained in her house as a resident, a daughter, even, albeit one who chose to be a recluse. She remained at home, educating herself on the things that interested her. To Dr. I.'s pleasure, Jun developed an interest in music boxes, captivated by Dr. I.'s box just as Dr. I. had been captivated by her mother's. To Dr. I.'s dismay, though, Jun had the common sense not to break it open. This was to her credit--she had given Jun a mature intellect--but a mother can't help but hope her daughter follows in her exact footsteps, right?

As Jun remained a recluse, she almost never went outside and never interacted with the people in her neighborhood. This caused the other neighborhood children to dismiss her as strange, making no attempt to get to know her. The only person who did was her next door neighbor, Hiro. His family moved in a few years after Jun's creation. Hiro himself was about as old as Jun looked. He caught sight of her staring out the window of her room as he walked to his new high school. He was curious. The only thing he knew about his new neighbor was that she was some sort of famous scientist. He didn't know she had a daughter! But he was soon advised to stay away from the girl, as she was odd and never left the house.

Naturally this meant he had to go talk to her!

Dr. I. wasn't so accommodating. Believing that her daughter was the most stubborn of recluses, she outright refused to let Hiro in. Left with no other choice, Hiro gave up and returned home--but not before he saw Jun looking at him through her window.

The next day was Saturday. Tired of being cooped up in his house working on homework and practicing piano, Hiro decided to go out for a stroll. He didn't get far when he was pulled aside by a surprisingly strong grip--made even more surprising when he found out the person who'd grabbed him was Jun.

She informed him that her mother was not at home and would not be for quite some time. That it was okay because she didn't need to eat. That if he wanted to visit her today, he could, and if he wanted to visit her tomorrow, when her mother was there, he could. Hiro didn't quite understand what was going on, but as he was curious, he agreed to pay her a visit. After all, aside from the "not needing to eat" part, she seemed pretty normal. Even her voice.

However, Jun was quick to dispel any notion that she was "normal" by informing him upfront that she was a robot. When he didn't believe her, she switched back to the computerized voice that had caused her mother such distress. She explained that her mother had tried to create a humanoid robot, but had given up on this experiment when she realized she could never get Jun to sound human. That, of course, was deliberate on Jun's part. She didn't want to be put on display and thus never spoke in her normal voice around her mother. But Hiro seemed interesting, and he was the only kid in the neighborhood who seemed interested in her. She told him that she understood if he found her too odd and wanted to leave. She just thought maybe he'd be the one worth taking a risk for.

Turns out she was right.

The two became fast friends, much to the mutual shock of their parents. Jun didn't become any more social with the other kids and Hiro was tight-lipped when asked for details about the strange recluse, but the two had an inseparable bond made closer by their mutual love for music. Hiro had been playing piano since he was very young and had been trying his hand at composition for a few years. Jun, on the other hand, didn't have a solely mechanical interest in music boxes, as her mother could attest. Heaven knows her daughter had sent her out in search of music theory books just as much as she had for materials to make boxes with. She had even commandeered one of her mother's computers for the express purpose of tinkering around with music notation software (while her mother silently noted the irony of a robot using a computer). Her music boxes were a nice combination of tunes she had picked up by ear and tunes she had composed herself; but when she heard the songs that Hiro had written, she became determined to make a box that played one of his songs.

To this end, she was successful. It was the best music box she'd ever created, in her estimation, and she wanted to give it to Hiro as a gift. But Hiro told her to keep it, and instead took one that played one of her songs. It didn't make sense to take something that would only remind him of him when he was alone, nor did it make sense for her to do the same. He insisted she keep the new music box, and play it whenever she wanted to be reminded of her friend. He'd do the same with the box that played her music.

And thus their social link maxed out.

Canon Standing: A little bit after the music box exchange.

Personality:
If you're itching to read a heart-rendering tale about a poor robot who yearns to be human, go read another application. Jun is a robot and knows she's a robot and she makes no attempt to hide it. She's very upfront about this to everyone she meets, though she rarely has to do more than speak. Hiro's the only person she feels comfortable talking to with her normal voice (her mother's gotten used to the computerized one).

Hiro's about the only person who also won't get the sassy side of Jun right off the bat--because Jun is a very sassy robot, openly critical of humans and their tendency to do unwise things. It isn't that she hates humans or thinks she's superior. Not...really. It's just that, knowing she's a robot, she knows she's an outsider to humanity and thus watches them from her place on the outside (or inside, of her house). And what she sees isn't always good. She believes that humans can be small-minded creatures who compartmentalize themselves into limiting definitions of what they and others should be, afraid to break away from those definitions and thus unwilling to see those who defy them as how they themselves wish to be perceived: as humans, as people worthy of their time. As such, she's more likely to get along with non-humans, though that hasn't yet happened since she's the only non-human she knows.

But don't let Jun's hard exterior fool you: she's a softie on the inside (figuratively speaking). She doesn't hate humanity, she just thinks they could do better. After all, humans were the ones who created music--and a human was the one who created her. There's something special hiding in all of them, they just need not be so close-minded and afraid to step outside their comfort zone. If there's a human who's genuinely interested in her and not afraid to be around her despite knowing she's a robot, she's more than happy to be their friend. But as she is reclusive, she doesn't feel any pressure to go out and make a lot of friends.

There's no deep, psychological reason for her being a recluse. She just prefers to keep to herself, to silence, and to music when she feels like it. She can't even stand being around Hiro or her mother all the time. (I'll refrain from making a "recharge her batteries" joke here.) Naturally, she dislikes being among a crowd, and there is a reason for that beyond merely being reclusive: she's afraid that someone will identify her as different and put her under the spotlight for it. She knows that humans have a tendency to treat people in the spotlight as things, and she'd rather not be treated as someone subject to the whims and assumptions of those who think they can control her. If she is among a crowd, expect her to be at the furthest edges of it, where you can barely see her.

All in all, Jun is a staunchly independent robot with a strong sense of self. She's clever and playful, and undeniably intelligent. She might be a little obtuse for most people to get, but if you're not afraid to go past her standoffish exterior and don't mind that she's a robot, you might just get to know one of the more interesting people you'll ever meet.

Hello this is Jun I am offering my services to whichever institutions may need my assistance.

I cannot make the materials for music boxes on my own thus I am in need of a steady financial income to support my hobby.

Normally my mother would do this but she is not here. Even if she were I am sure she would likewise need to find some form of employment to support herself and me so either way I must debase myself and participate in this wage slavery you call capitalism.

I can be friendly if need be.

I've been told I have a lovely smile. :) (That is not actually my smile but an approximation of it rendered in grammatical symbols. I believe you humans call this an "emoticon". I will never understand the human attraction to puns and portmanteaus.)

I would offer my CV resume cover letter if I had such but I do not. I am a robot though so I pick up new skills quickly also I do not require breaks for meals or mental and physical restoration so you are free to take advantage of this as you please.

However I may not comply to all of your inconsiderate requests. I have a life too.

Regardless this has grown long I apologize for forcing you humans to read what in reality is not a large block of text but according to the human mind is an inconvenience.

I'm sorry I'm not a magazine or a newspaper or a blog.

Serious inquiries only no phone calls thank you.
